What is fashion? Is it some fashionable things?

Fashion is not only things, but also their combinations and general trends; it changes regularly (although not as fast as it seems). Designers show two to four seasonal collections a year: fall/winter, spring/summer, cruise and pre-fall. Based on their results, magazines and websites analyze everything seen on the runways or in lookbooks, making a selection of the main trends of the season (or off-season) – a guide for those who want to match them.

Some trends are born and die faster than the mass market can copy them – and never become widely popular. Others may have a much longer shelf life – from a couple of seasons to a couple of years. This is mostly true for more general trends, such as the current minimalist or sporty fashions. But there can be a lively fashion for a certain style, color or even fabric. For example, velvet, Victorian ruffles and voluminous sleeves, floral prints, broad shoulders, dimensionless hoodies are in fashion for the past season. Other things, on the contrary, sharply come into fashion, as sharply lose relevance and quickly begin to look outdated. These can be individual closet items (like pleated floor-length skirts, round-toe shoes or leopard faux fur coats) or a whole subcultural style, like the hipster lumberjack look with waxed jackets, plaid shirts and Red Wing boots.
